Alli Hartz

Alli Hartz

Panelist
Alli has been living and ski touring in Central Oregon for twelve years. She works as a ski guide and avalanche course instructor for Oregon Ski Guides and Three Sisters Backcountry. She loves all varieties of sliding downhill on snow, from waist deep powder days to skimo racing and spring volcano skiing. She is working toward earning her ski guide certification through the American Mountain Guides Association. She was inspired to pursue a career as a ski guide after participating in the She Jumps Alpine Finishing School, which was her first time meeting women guides. She loves seeing women take the lead and empower each other in the backcountry.

Anna Soens

Anna Soens

Panelist
After sustaining a spinal cord injury in a rock climbing accident in 2015, Anna has been pushing boundaries as a paraplegic athlete. With crews of support, she gained the first female paraplegic ascent of Mt Hood in 2018 and the first paraplegic ascent of Mt Baker the following year. Her continued (sit)skiing endeavors help raise the bar of expectation for what "disabled" looks like. Passionate about empowering people to find their joy and challenge in the outdoors, Anna is heavily involved with Oregon Adaptive Sports and other organizations across the country that promote outdoor recreation for people with disabilities. Anna works full-time as a wildlife biologist in Bend and lives with her husband, cattle dog, and four fat chickens.

The Nature of Work

Embark Coworking Community

We are so grateful to Embark for providing the space for our Speaker Series.

Embark started as a dream for Ruffwear’s Will Blount and Patrick Kruse. In 2016, they realized the company was outgrowing their current space and they’d need to expand. Entrepreneurs at heart, they envisioned an opportunity to give back to the start-up spirit in Bend, and the idea of creating a coworking space to support up-and-coming companies, expose Ruffwear team members to new ideas, and foster community was born.
